Making Money By Saving Money
If you own a business, you know that saving money is just as important as making money. This may sound a bit absurd, but it is true. Think about it this way, if your business made $1,000 today but you spent $950 to run it, your profit would only be $50. On the other hand if your company made only $300 today and you merely spent $200 in total costs, you would have made a profit of $100. This is a very simple example of how you can make more money by saving money.
A perfect example of how I, personally, saved quite a bit of money by streamlining the shipping end of my business, is with the use of poly bag sealers. My business consists of making and selling small machine parts. These parts are shipped in poly bags. At one point I was purchasing cases of pre-sealed bags which I was using to sort the various machine parts. After doing a little bit of research I learned that by purchasing a poly bag sealer, I could use poly rolls to package my product. Now the price of a roll of poly plastic is approximately the same as a case of bags. The way that I saved money was by making the bags only as big as I needed them to be. This increased the amount of bags that I could produce from any given roll by 10%. So I was getting 10% more from the money that I spent on a certain shipping product.
This small amount might not seem like much but was allowing me spend hundreds of dollars less each month on poly bags. This money can now be reinvested into my company and used to make my business grow. Whether I choose to use that money for advertising or an increased labor budget, it is sure to help improve and build my business stronger. All of this came from one small and simple change. So it is true that one of the best ways to make money for almost any business, is to save money.
