Cash Karma and the Law of Abundance

I thought I’d write a bit about money mentality since the tagline of my blog is ‘Keys to Abundance’. There are ways we all think about wealth that stem back to our childhoods, our families and especially the backgrounds we were brought up in.

The concept of scarcity in recent times, not just in money but in everything, can be traced back to the post war era, when people still had ration books for food. The mentality developed that there wasn’t enough to go round. It became very easy to pass this sort of thinking down the generations, and it led to what some people refer to as poverty consciousness. To the idea buried deep in the mind that some people are not ‘supposed’ to have wealth – in a way it stemmed from and also reinforced the class system in Britain, prodding everyone to know their place, and do nothing to attempt to break the cycle.

But having a deep-seated sense of poverty consciousness is a terrible affliction. In a staggering number of cases it has led to people losing small fortunes, from wins on lotteries or other windfalls, simply because they thought they didn’t deserve that wealth – having it didn’t fit in with their belief systems. They created a self-fulfilling prophesy, and became poor again.

It is better to try and develop a sense of abundance rather than scarcity. It simply isn’t the case that if you have more wealth, then somebody else must have less. Try not to use phrases like ‘filthy’ rich, or ‘fat cat’ as you are creating a them and us boundary, where you are choosing the side of the poor. You’ll never want to become ‘one of them‘.

I prefer to think of wealth as being like a cake. If you give some away to somebody else, you are not necessarily losing out. If they take what you’ve given them and use it wisely, they can grow the cake; they add value. So everybody is better off. This is the Law of Abundance as I see it.

I demonstrate my belief in abundance in my online ventures. If somebody gives me a lead that I follow up, often there might be a finder’s fee or commission. Usually it’s upto me to inform the company that somebody else referred me – rather than just keeping quiet about it. I do inform them, and it helps spread the wealth, and create goodwill. I don’t do it expecting anything in return, but I do know that I feel better, knowing that the person who freely and unselfishly gave me the lead has gained a little bonus. They’ll help others in future now. Maybe somebody else who I recommend a lead to will do the same for me. I call it cash karma – if you happily spread wealth, then wealth has a habit of revisiting you, and it brings its friends.

So what are your thoughts about wealth and money? Are you sabbotaging yourself because of poverty-thinking? Do you think money is the root of all evil? When actually the Bible says it is ‘the love’ of money that is the root of all evil. And the manifestation of ‘love of money’ is to hoard it, believing in scarcity; instead of believing in the Law of Abundance.
